Year 5 Beamish Fun!
Year 5 Beamish Fun!

Year 5 had an unforgettable adventure at Beamish! They stepped back in time, explored historic streets, and discovered what life was like in the past. During our trip, we took part in a workshop to see what school would be like during the Victorian times. We had a go at the activities and experienced having a strict teacher! We all had an excellent day!

Gardening with the Eco-Cops!
Gardening with the Eco-Cops!

The Eco Cops have been busy improving our outdoor area today. They have cleared all the area, pulled out weeds and planted a range of different flowers to attract wildlife. Also, a big thank you to some of our  Year 6 children and parents who helped too.  Well done all, it looks wonderful!

Earth Day 2025!
Earth Day 2025!

Our school has celebrated Earth Day in school this week with lots of outdoor work and lots of different activities. Early Years explored outside and planted some seeds. Year 1 and 2 planted sunflower seeds, explored plants in our grounds, played a game deciding what was good or bad for the earth, sorted pictures into the correct types of recycling bins and produced some fantastic pictures of the earth using natural materials. Lower KS2 discussed Earth Day and made a pledge to help the earth, writing it down and displaying it on their brilliant door handle they created. Year 5...

Year 5 First Aid Workshop
Year 5 First Aid Workshop

Yesterday, Year 5 had an excellent day learning essential first aid skills. They looked at DRABC (Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing and Circulation); how to perform CPR; what a defibrillator is, how to use it and where it is located in our school; how to deal with allergic reactions; how to put someone in the recovery position and how to bandage a wound. All children worked very sensibly throughout the day and asked lots of important questions. Miss Watson and Mrs Wall were delighted with the children’s behaviour and excellent knowledge. Well done year 5!

A Fantastic Trip to Durham Cathedral!
A Fantastic Trip to Durham Cathedral!

On Wednesday Lower Key Stage Two enjoyed a brilliant trip to Durham Cathedral. We took part in a fantastic range of activities linked to Saint Cuthbert and had a tour of the cathedral to visit his shrine. During the team building activities, the children had to herd sheep, feed Saint Cuthbert onions and cross the sea to Lindisfarne using stepping stones! We also used drama to perform some famous stories about Cuthbert and thoroughly enjoyed getting to see the amazing Lego model of the cathedral. What a great day we had!

Riverside Primary Academy

Achievement, Teaching, Behaviour and Leadership

Welcome to our Academy… As Headteacher of Riverside Primary Academy, I would like to warmly welcome you to our school website. I hope you can find all of the information you require about our school here, but if you have any further questions, please ring us and ask. The Governing Body, the Leadership Team and I have a very clear vision of what we want and how to get the best deal for our children and the community we serve. For this reason, we made the decision in 2012 to become an academy. This means we have been given the freedom to make choices for our school which bring the most benefits to our children and our families. We are no longer a Local Authority school and therefore, there are some differences in the way we do things at our school to the way they are done in others. … Read More
