Growing Healthy Gateshead 0-19 – School Nurse

 

Growing Healthy Gateshead School nursing team have shared with us a whole host of information and support available to our families.

 

Parents and carers can now contact a School Nurse directly via telephone Monday to Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm Tel: 03000 031 918 or via email: spoc.hdftgateshead@nhs.net.   The school nursing team provide support, advice and intervention with many aspects of school age children and young people’s health and wellbeing including:

 

  • Emotional health, resilience and well being
  • SEND advice and support
  • Friendship and bullying
  • Behaviour issues
  • Puberty sessions
  • Healthy eating, growth and development
  • Bladder and Bowel
  • Dental health
  • Sleep
  • Transition sessions
  • Stop smoking service for age 14+
  • Sexual health
  • Alcohol/drugs misuse
  • Support for children and young people who are Looked After
  • Safeguarding of children and young people

 

You can also contact the school nurse via the ‘Health Chat’ function on the Gateshead Growing Healthy App. (Available on App Store and Google Play.)

School Anxiety and Refusal 

If your child is anxious about school, or their mental health means they are unable to go to school, we have advice on supporting them and tips on working with school and other services.

 

Early Help – advice and support for Gateshead families

Early Help means taking action to support a child, young person or family early in the life of a problem, as soon as it emerges. It can be required at any stage in a child’s life from pre-birth to adulthood, and applies to any problem or need that the family cannot deal with or meet on their own.

 

Family Intervention

The Early Help Service provides an intensive ‘Targeted Family Support’ service. We offer this to Gateshead families with more intensive needs.

We can give practical help, advice and advocacy to you and your family providing extra support with:

  • family relationships
  • children’s behaviour
  • home conditions
  • parenting and introducing routines/boundaries
  • health and wellbeing
  • household budgets
  • leisure and learning
  • help from other professionals
